𧔠How to Build Products That Truly Define Web3?
Lessons from @KarimJDDA, Director of Product Engineering at @paritytech.
1ïžâŁ People use products, not protocols.
Tech doesnât change the world until itâs usable.
Transformers existed years before ChatGPT â what changed was the interface.
Web3 needs its âChatGPT moment.â Build experiences, not whitepapers.
2ïžâŁ Donât just decentralize, make the impossible possible.
If your idea can be built in Web2, youâre thinking too small.
Use Polkadotâs SDK to design systems that:
canât be censored đ§±
canât be shut down đĄ
donât depend on corporate promises đ
3ïžâŁ Design for humans, not crypto experts.
Your grandma should be able to use it.
- Hide the blockchain jargon.
- Deliver instant utility (value at n = 1).
- Make the magic obvious, not the tech.
4ïžâŁ Build for truth, not trust.
Donât say âwe promise not to misuse your data.â
Prove cryptographically that you canât.
â Privacy by math, not policy.
â Ownership by keys, not by ToS.
â Permanence by design, not by uptime.
5ïžâŁ Think of Polkadot as a network of decentralized APIs.
You can build your own âStripe,â âAWS,â or âDropboxâ, but without gatekeepers.
Each parachain = a specialized API: identity, storage, privacy, compute â composable, verifiable, unstoppable.
6ïžâŁ Solve real pain, not hypothetical ones.
Ask yourself:
- Does centralization cause real harm here?
- Can only Web3 fix it?
- Will users care enough to switch?
If you canât answer âyesâ to all three, keep digging.
7ïžâŁ Verification over marketing.
Open-source your code.
Let skeptics verify.
If users can check instead of trust, youâre building the future.
8ïžâŁ Remember the goal:
Weâre not building better versions of Facebook or Google.
Weâre building what they canât.
Protocols that empower users, not platforms that extract from them.
The infrastructure is ready.
Polkadot works.
The SDK works.
Now itâs on us to build products that make the impossible feel obvious.
